IGC Endorsement Statement Regarding Doreen Bogdan-Martin’s Candidacy for ITU Secretary-General
The Internet Governance Coalition enthusiastically supports Doreen Bogdan-Martin’s candidacy for Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Ms. Bogdan-Martin offers unique experience and exceptional accomplishments, especially during her 28 years at the ITU, supporting and leading some of the institution’s most important accomplishments. As the first woman elected Director of the ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau, Doreen has brought a needed focus on the importance of inclusion, with an emphasis on developing countries, women and girls, and youth. These are essential perspectives in the ITU’s globally important work to connect the world.
We therefore endorse Ms. Bogdan-Martin’s candidacy as an important step towards further promoting an open and accessible Internet. We have the utmost confidence that Doreen will ensure that the ITU achieves its critical goals in the years to come, fostering meaningful connectivity and enabling the digital transformation globally.
